Information

Have you completed your studies? Whether you have a degree or not, take part in our survey! We are interested in improving our degree programmes and need your support to do so. Share your experiences of your field of study with us and take part in our online surveyExternal link!

General information

The official beginning of studies is the enrolment to a university, sometimes also called ¡°matriculation¡±. Its opposite is removal from the register of students, i.e. termination of enrolment. If the course is complete or if you would like to continue studies at another institution of higher education, you should terminate your enrolment at our university first.

Application for De-registration

You can apply for de-registration online via the Student Services department in Friedolin 2.0. Instructions on how to apply can be found here.External link

If you know early on that you want to deregister for the next semester, then the application should be submitted to the Student Services Centre within the re-registration period (winter semester by 15 August / summer semester by 15 February).

Once your de-registration has been processed, you will receive a certificate of de-registration and a certificate of study progress from the university, which you should keep in a safe place for future reference. The certificates are valid without a signature. The certificate of exmatriculation is very important for various other purposes (e.g. for possible later enrolment at another university, for the BAf?G office or the child benefit office, future employers, etc.).

The certificate of exmatriculation also serves as a pension certificate. In the not too distant future, the German Pension Insurance Fund will contact you and ask you to provide proof of your period of study for the purpose of ¡®pension account clarification¡¯. This certificate is intended for this very purpose.

Notice: The transcript of records should already have been printed from?Friedolin before termination of enrolment. If you want to keep the e-mails from your university e-mail account, you should download them before termination of enrolment. Do not forget to return your books to the library and treat yourself to something nice with the money left on your thoska card. In general, you should note that certain rights no longer exist once de-registration takes effect (e.g. library, semester ticket, IT account rights, etc.). If you still need continued IT rights (e.g. moodle, zoom, digital library, ...), you should seek advice on the continuation of your enrolment status or the appropriate time for exmatriculation in good time before applying for exmatriculation.

Information on withdrawal from enrolment

If you would like to withdraw your enrolment at a later point, you have to return the student ID (thoska)
together with a written request for deletion of enrolment (form available
at /en/studies/forms+and+downloads), by the last working day of the second week
of the lecture period. In that case, we will delete your enrolment and you are not enrolled for the entire
semester.

If your enrolment is deleted and the thoska is returned by the day before the beginning of the
semester (i.e. by 30 September or 31 March, respectively), we will also return part of your semester
contribution. The fee component ¡®thoska¡¯ will not be returned if your enrolment is deleted. At the same time,
according to the current fee regulations of the University of Jena, an additional cancellation fee in the
amount of €25.00 is due, which is offset against the refund of the semester contribution.

Should you return
the semester documents late or incompletely, you are considered enrolled for the current semester; instead
of a deletion of enrolment, the only option is then de-registration. Should you apply for a study programme
with admission restriction in the future, this semester will count as ¡®semester studied¡¯.
