Networking is considered to be one of the key skills for gaining visibility and moving forward in academia – and yet many female researchers find it difficult. All too often, networking comes across as artificial, strategic or simply time-consuming. In most cases, it is not a lack of willingness that is the problem, but a lack of practical tools – and the confidence that networking can be done authentically.
The workshop series “Networking for female Researchers” addresses precisely this need: it uses practical methods that tackle the challenges within the academic system, strengthen participants’ networking skills in a targeted manner, and encourage the development of a strong peer community. The aim is to promote networking, support the acquisition of skills, and contribute to individual empowerment.
The series is organised in collaboration with the Jena-based TOP7 Network for Female Empowerment. The three founders of the network will host the workshops:
- Annelie Gallon (Lawyer for AI Law & Innovation)
- Eva-Maria Hartwich (Organisational development consultant I Co-Leadership-Coach)
- Marie Legrand (Digitalisation Officer at JenaKultur | Digitalisation & Transformation | IT Management)
The two workshops complement each other. We therefore recommend taking part in both. The language of the workshops will be German. Childcare will be available at both evening events.
Part 1: ‘Networking with Attitude – Visible, Connected, Bold’
21 April, 18.00h – 21.00h, Auditorium Haus "Zur Rosen" (Johannisstr. 13)
In the first workshop, we invite you to reframe networking as a valuable resource. A role model talk with authentic insights into personal networking journeys, along with practical introductory exercises, will help you identify your own attitudes and experiment with initial tools. A moderated networking session will allow participants to build peer connections. The aim is to openly explore the conflicting relationship between competition and cooperation in academia, break down barriers, and encourage participants to invest their time and energy purposefully in networking.
Registration is open until 14 April. The number of participants in the workshops is limited. For this reason, we can only inform you whether you have been accepted onto the workshop after the registration deadline has passed.
Part 2: “Developing networking skills – staying visible and making an impact”
Autumn 2026, Auditorium Haus "Zur Rosen" (Johannisstr. 13)
Based on this, in the second workshop we specifically focus on deepening networking skills through a pitch and self-introduction training session. This strengthens participants’ ability to introduce themselves in professional, interdisciplinary and informal contexts. In a rotating speed-coaching format, participants also receive personalised guidance on visibility, relationship-building and strategic career paths. A peer-learning exchange helps participants to collectively identify success factors and stumbling blocks. The workshop concludes with the development of a personal networking strategy and specific commitments, ensuring that every participant leaves the workshop with a clear sense of direction.
