  • Welcome event

    Welcome Event

    At the welcome event, all new employees and doctoral candidates starting in the current year are welcomed by the President of Friedrich Schiller University Jena. This event lasts approximately two hours and introduces the city of Jena as a centre of science and Friedrich Schiller University. After the general welcome, there are specific presentations on the support services available to doctoral candidates.

  • PhD and Postdoc Day

    PhD Day

    Once a year, the Graduate Academy offers a PhD and Postdoc Day with an information fair and various talks. At the information fair, postdocs, doctoral candidates and prospective doctoral candidates can gain information about research-relevant topics at Jena University. In the talks, you can get answers to questions like: How can I finance my PhD? How can I manage my scientific work with a family? How can I become a good supervisor?

  • "Three Minute Thesis" - Competition

    Three Minute Thesis Competiton

    The Three Minute Thesis Competition? is an internationally renowned science communication event. In this event, doctoral candidates from all disciplines present their dissertations in English, on one slide only and with no more than three minutes time! A jury will award the winner.

  • Schillertag (Schiller Day) and Graduation Ceremony

    Festive Ceremony on Schillertag

    The graduation ceremony and presentation of doctoral diplomas takes place once a year, on Schillertag. Schillertag is the academic holiday of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and its community of friends and supporters. It is in honor of the inaugural lecture of the namesake of the university and is followed by the university's Sommerfest.

    Schillertag is where doctoral and habilitation prizes are awarded and where all doctoral candidates are honoured who completed their doctoral degrees at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in the previous year. Family members and friends, as well as the doctoral commissions, are welcome to attend this event.

  • Career Days

    Doctoral candidates and postdocs face at some point the question of how to shape their career after the doctoral and in the postdoc phase. During the Career Days they will gain insights into career possibilities in academia and get the opportunity to explore strategies for applications in industry and society.
