The ENTRANCE project offers a unique opportunity to expand your skills in the field of alumni relations. This includes effective communication with this specific Chinese target group as well as, more broadly, related issues that form the basis for successful communication despite linguistic and cultural differences and different communication platforms and habits.
However, there are considerable uncertainties in both communication with China and communication about China: What can be addressed and how? How can one translate not only specific statements, but also take into account other levels of communication, such as communication style, cultural preferences, or target group-specific addressing? What distinguishes the various Chinese social media channels, how can they be used to specifically address a Chinese target group in Germany and China, and what needs to be considered? What about image and trademark rights? But also, to return to the overarching question: How do you stay in touch with Chinese alumni, and what formats could you perhaps even develop together?
With the aim of finding answers to these questions, the focus trip will take place from September 5 to 13, 2026, visiting both the capital Beijing and the metropolis of Xi'an in the west of the country.
During the trip, participants will have the opportunity to visit Chinese universities and German representative offices in China, engage in dialogue with German students, Chinese alumni, and local experts, and immerse themselves in the country's communication culture.
The target audience is anyone at German universities and research centers who deals with these and related issues, particularly those working in alumni relations, marketing, communications, career services, and related fields. The program will not only include meetings and tours, but will also consist of daily activities that encourage participants to create their own content and try out new formats.
