Leibniz Research Network China to launch in January 2026
Philipp B?ing has been elected spokesperson for the Leibniz Research Network China. The network aims to promote scientific cooperation between Leibniz Institutes and develop advisory services for German policymakers.
B?ing is a senior researcher in the “Innovation Economics and Business Dynamics” research area at the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim and professor of empirical innovation research with a focus on China at Goethe University Frankfurt. Previously, B?ing was an assistant professor at Peking University and a Taiwan Fellow at Academia Sinica. He has advised the World Bank, the OECD, and the German Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation, among others.
"With the Leibniz Research Network on China, we are pooling our economic and innovation policy expertise on China and making it available for targeted use in politics, business, and society. Reliable analyses of competitiveness, trade, investment, and technology are essential for the development of a realistic China policy. As the newly elected spokesperson, I look forward to contributing to the success of the network," explains B?ing.
The Leibniz Research Network China will commence its work in January 2026. It has initially been approved for three years. Scientists from 21 Leibniz institutions from all scientific sections of the association are involved. They are supplemented by experts from administration and science communication.
