Prof. Dr Kristin Shi-Kupfer is Professor of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Trier, specialising in Digital China. Her 2023 book “Digit@l China – Surveillance Dictatorship and Technological Vanguard” analyses China’s ambivalent role as both a high-tech pioneer and an authoritarian surveillance state.
Her research focuses on the intersection of politics, society and digital transformation in China – in particular, the role of social media, state control and public discourse.
In her lecture, she explores how political, social and cultural negotiations are reflected within China’s digital sphere.
The lecture will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes, followed by a discussion and an opportunity to ask questions.
