Green spaces around the university could be much more than just lawns and offer potential for biodiversity and student participation. The idea is to work with students to enhance the ecological value of the areas along Helmholtzweg.
The aim is to plant fruit bushes (e.g. raspberries, redcurrants), herbs and insect-friendly flowers in the green areas along Helmholtzweg that are managed by the university. There are also plans to set up a raised bed that can be used by students for vegetable projects in the long term.
The realisation would take the form of a community planting campaign, in which knowledge about urban gardening and plant care would also be imparted. The Physics student council, which has already signalled its willingness to do so, could take over the maintenance in the future.
Current status
The idea is currently being coordinated with various university departments and will be concretised as soon as the necessary approvals and framework conditions have been clarified.
