In the history of the University of Jena, there have been and still are numerous spin-offs and transfer-related projects that can be seen in the context of sustainable development and climate change. Continued cooperation with the university is essential for companies. In addition, new research findings are quickly and directly transferred into practical applications in business and society. Some well-known spin-offs or transfer-related projects are presented below.
-
ThINK
The Thuringian Institute for Sustainability and Climate Protection(ThINKExternal link) provides comprehensive research, planning, advisory services(s)|consultations and educational services in Germany and abroad in the fields of climate (climate protection, climate change and climate change adaptation, urban climate ...), energy (renewable energies, energy efficiency ...), satellite and UAV-based remote sensing and the broad field of sustainability (e.g. CO2 balancing and compensation).
-
Earth Oberservation Service GmbH
E|0|SExternal link is a pioneer in the operational processing of active microwave remote sensing data for the mapping of forest biomass and other forest-related biophysical parameters that are important for sustainable forest management. In addition, other innovative services are offered, ranging from the analysis of all types of remote sensing data to the development of digital training content.
-
Alpha Analytics UG & Co. KG
The Alpha Analytics teamExternal link is from the DataScience department and has a wealth of experience in processing and analysing data in an industrial environment. In particular, machine learning processes and multivariate analysis methods are used to recognise complex correlations in data and make predictions based on this, e.g. about the health of machines or the quality of products.
-
WINNER joint project
WINNERExternal link is the realisation approach of energy grid-neutral electromobility integrated into the objectives of the housing industry (WoWi). It combines local, renewable energies in the properties, their use as an energy supply in the neighbourhood (also known as tenant electricity) and the promotion of commercial and private electromobility through the intelligent use of overcapacities, fluctuations in capacity utilisation and the grid status of both the local and the public electricity grid.

The Jena Declaration
The Jena Declaration. Cultural and regional dimensions of global sustainability
The Jena Declaration (TJD) calls for a double paradigm shift in sustainability research and policy. Firstly, from an ecology-centred to a culture-centred approach. With our bodies, we are part of nature. Therefore, nature is not our environment. The way we act as nature always depends on our cultural background and the regional context. Secondly, this leads to a paradigm shift from a top-down to a bottom-up approach.

Polytives GmbH
Polytives GmbH emerged from Prof Dr Felix Schacher's research group|working group|study group|Macromolecular Chemistry at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry and was founded in 2020.
The aim of Polytives is to contribute to energy optimisation in plastics production through innovative solutions and to bridge the gap between basic research and industrial application. The company's first product is an additive that can control the properties of plastics.

MINT Festival Jena
The MINT Festival Jena is a science festival centred around Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Technology for pupils from primary school to sixth form. It takes place every two years. The aim is to get young people interested in STEM topics and thus contribute to the recruitment of young talent in the STEM area|field.
The event sensitises children and young people to numerous sustainability-related topics, such as renewable energies, biodiversity and climate change. Pupils can also learn how scientific and technological innovations can contribute to solving current environmental problems.
Do you have any additions? Would you like your spin-off or transfer-related project to be mentioned here? We look forward to hearing from you at nachhaltigkeit@uni-jena.de!
