Ferdinand Stenglein is researcher at the institute of social geography at the University of Jena. In 2008/2009, he stayed one year at the University of Hong Kong and joined a project with the Chinese Academy of Science doing research in the border region between Yunnan and Tibet. For his Master thesis, he conducted qualitative research on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert in the autonomous province of Xinjiang.
