Join the hybrid EC2U Conference in Jena!

Building Peace and Justice Resilience in Europe
Interdisciplinary Approaches Supporting ,Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 16

October 27th, 2025

This conference is envisioned to develop theories, interdisciplinary methods, and governing practices relevant to the in-development EC2U Joint Master’s Programme: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (hereafter JMP). The JMP refers directly to the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) no. 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. Given the current EU policies that emphasize sustainability at the political level and promote international cooperation, the conference aims to raise awareness of related issues and provide a space for constructive exchange for discussing the meaning of peaceful, effectively governed and inclusive societies.

Programme

The conference consists of three parts: In the first part, held in the morning, a series of presentations will explore how the topics of SDG 16 on the one hand and solidarity at an European level on the other are interrelated, and how real peace and justice resilience can be facilitated and preserved. The second part in the afternoon will offer participants the opportunity to engage in several workshops, allowing for a discursive examination of solidarity from various professional perspectives. The third and final part, in the late afternoon, will conclude with a panel discussion featuring several members of the WP-7 project working group.

Who can attend?

The event will be open for public and is explicitly designed to foster dialogue between speakers and participants and thus build a bridge between EC2U and the public, there-by making a valuable contribution to understanding the complex issues surrounding solidarity and its constitutive role in promoting peace, justice and strong institutions.
