Wenn Sie vor der Frage stehen, welche beruflichen M?glichkeiten es f?r Sie au?erhalb der Wissenschaft gibt, m?chten wir Sie durch einen Karriereabend inspirieren. Wir haben Natur- und Lebenswissenschaftler und -wissenschaftlerinnen eingeladen, die nach ihrer Promotion in au?eruniversit?ren Arbeitsfeldern t?tig geworden sind. Sie werden ?ber ihre T?tigkeitsfelder und die Wege dorthin berichten.
Die Veranstaltung wird in Kooperation von Graduierten-Akademie und Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC) durchgef?hrt. Sie findet am 23. Juni von 18 bis 20 Uhr im JSMC H?rsaal in der Neugasse 23 statt. Anschlie?end wird es ein kleines Get-together mit kalten Getr?nken und Snacks geben. Das internationale Tutoren-Team der Graduierten-Akademie (intudoc) sucht ab Juni 2014 eine neue Tutorin bzw. einen neuen Tutor. Das intudoc-Team betreut internationale Promovierende bei ihrer Ankunft in Jena. F?r die T?tigkeit als Tutor vergibt die Graduierten-Akademie ein Betreuungsstipendium des DAAD in H?he von monatlich 141 Euro. Was hier helfen kann, ist ein Blick ?ber den Tellerrand. Dazu fordert die Graduierten-Akademie Sie im Sommersemester mit zwei Workshops zu Grundfragen der Wissenschaft heraus:
Grundpositionen der Wissenschaftstheorie (8. April, 9-17 Uhr)
Interdisziplin?re Kompetenz f?r Geistes-, Sozial- und Naturwissenschaftler (24. April, 9-17 Uhr)
Im Austausch mit Promovierenden und Postdocs anderer Fachbereiche reflektieren Sie die Ziele, Methoden und Grundlagen von Wissenschaft und k?nnen mit Abstand auf die Fundamente Ihrer eigenen Forschungst?tigkeit blicken. Zugleich erhalten Sie Einblicke in andere F?cherkulturen, gewinnen ein vertieftes Verst?ndnis f?r deren Denkweisen und schulen damit Ihre interdisziplin?re Kompetenz.

Eine der gr??ten Herausforderungen w?hrend der Promotion ist es, sich ?ber mehrere Jahre hinweg Ziele zu setzen, seine Zeit und Aufgaben zu strukturieren und sich immer wieder zu motivieren. Warum sollte man damit allein bleiben?
F?r alle, die am regelm??igen Austausch ?ber ihre Promotion interessiert sind und sich gegenseitige Begleitung auf Augenh?he w?nschen, bietet die Graduierten-Akademie einen Auftaktworkshop zum Start von Promotions-Tandems und -Teams. Dies sind kleine Gruppen von Promovierenden, die sich eigenst?ndig treffen, um ?ber Arbeitsfortschritte, aktuelle Schwierigkeiten und die Situation rund um die Promotion zu sprechen und sich zu unterst?tzen.

Die DFG bietet eine Vielzahl von F?rderformaten, die der wissenschaftliche Nachwuchs zielgerichtet nutzen kann, um eigene FuE-Projekte umzusetzen oder eine eigene Nachwuchsgruppe aufzubauen. Die Veranstaltung findet im kleinen Rosensaal von 14:30 bis 16:30 Uhr statt.

Die Ernst-Abbe-Stiftung vergibt zum zweiten Mal Promotionsstipendien an den Th?ringer Hochschulen. Mit den Stipendien in H?he von 1.200 Euro monatlich werden Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden aller Fachrichtungen f?r einen Zeitraum von zwei Jahren gef?rdert. Eine Verl?ngerung um ein Jahr ist m?glich. If you are thinking about career options outside academia that are attractive for natural and life scientists, there is a career evenings that might inspire your thoughts. For this evening, we invited natural and life scientists who started to work in different fields outside academia after completing their PhD. They are going to talk about their current job and how they managed to find and pursue their individual career path.
This is a joint event of the Graduate Academy and Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC). It will take place on June 23rd from 18:15-20:00h in the JSMC auditorium (Neugasse 23). The international tutor team of the Graduate Academy (intudoc) is looking for a new tutor from June 2014. The team of intudoc offers support for international doctoral candidates who have just arrived in Jena, helping with paperwork, registrations and orientation in Jena and at FSU. During the summer term 2014 the elections of the Board of the Academy and the doctoral council (DR.FSU) will again be taking place. All electives will be notified via e-mail in April 2014. If you want to run for one of the committees and represent the interests of the doctoral candidates, you may submit your nomination to the elective office until 06 May 2014. Many experience the following: the more detailed they become acquainted with specific issues during their daily research, the more difficult it becomes to facilitate the own research results to others and to class them with a larger context.
In this case it can be helpful to think outside the box. To this end, the Graduate Academy is inviting you to two workshops about fundamental questions of science and humanities this summer term:
08 April: Basic positions in the philosophy of science (in German)
24 April: Interdisciplinary competence for humanities scholars, social scientists and natural scientists (in German)
In dialogue with doctoral candidates and postdocs of other subject areas, you may here reflect on aims and methods of science and humanities and also take a look at fundaments of your own research work from a distance. At the same time, you will receive insights into other disciplines, you will gain an advanced apprehension for their ways of thinking and thereby train your interdisciplinary competence.

One of the major challenges of working on a PhD project over some years is to set targets for yourself, to structure your time and working tasks and to motivate yourself again and again. Why stay alone with that challenge?
The Graduate Academy is organising together with the DR.FSU a joint program for those who want to talk about their PhD process and situation with other PhD candidates on a regular basis. In a tandem or small group you can meet independently and discuss your work progress, difficulties and working situation.
There will be a kick-off workshop for these PhD tandems and small groups on 29 April. Further information and the online registration at the study programme you can find here.

With the support of Stiftung Mercator, the Graduate Academy is developing a Germany-wide unique concept for further qualifications for the field of ?fundamental questions of science and humanities?. The idea behind this is to encourage young researchers to emerge from their scientific specialization, to reflect on the basics of their own culture of subject and to train their scientific foresight by maintaining an interdisciplinary dialogue.
After having started the pilot phase with a few workshops this winter term, the development of a seminar module is now planned. Concerning the further development we are dependent on the impulses and feedbacks from the different disciplines and status groups. What do young researchers want? Where does involvement with fundamental questions of science and humanities already take place at everyday work? Which topics and questions are relevant?
We would like to discuss these questions with you and therefore invite you to a workshop on 14 April from 6 ? 8 pm. The agenda can be found here.

5th career fair will take place in the foyer of
campus at the Abbe Platz on 15 May from 10 am till 3 pm.
Students and graduates will be able to meet companies to
talk about internships, employment opportunities or
writing their final thesis. In addition, you can
participate in related activities like an application
training.
On 02 July the Service Centre for Research and Transfer will be hosting an information session of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The session focuses on funding opportunities of DFG, which young researchers can use depending on their qualification and ideas to start research projects or their own research group. The session will take place at the small Rosensaal from 14:30 h till 16:30 h. It will be held in German.

The
Ernst-Abbe-Stiftung
is awarding PhD scholarships at Thuringian universities for the
second time. The scholarships that fund doctoral candidates for
a period of two years amount to 1,200 Euro per month. An
extension of one year is possible. Applications for these
scholarships are only possible through the Graduate Academy.
Application deadline is on 14.04.2014. Further information can

[top]The Academy of non-profit sciences in Erfurt (Akademie gemeinn?tziger Wissenschaften) is tendering two prizes for young researchers: the ?Dalberg prize 2014 for transdisciplinary research? and the ?Reichart prize 2014 ? Erfurt?s prize for applied science?. Boths prizes include prize money of 2,000 Euro. You may apply until 30 June (Dalberg prize) or until 30 April 2014 (Reichart prize). The tenders can be found here.
After the great success of the first regulars? table for PhD-students, this meeting will now take place monthly. Doctoral researchers of all faculties can meet in relaxed atmosphere to socialize and discuss PhD-related and interdisciplinary topics. Next regulars? table: 9th of April, 2014, 8 pm, Gr?nowski.
After the elections is before the elections: Since the elections for the first term of the DR.FSU were done exceptionally in October 2013, the elections for the next term (1st of October, 2014 until 31st of September, 2015) will be held soon. Candidates can submit their nominations to the elective office of the FSU from the 7th of April to the 5th of May, 2014. Interested doctoral researchers are invited to visit the next meeting of the DR.FSU on the 7th of April in the Auditorium of the House for young Researchers (Johannisstr. 13).
