1. Neue Mitglieder im Rat der Akademie
Die Post-Doc- und Doktorandenvertreter wurden 2010 erstmals per Online-Wahl in den Rat der Akademie gew?hlt. Die GA gratuliert allen neu und wieder gew?hlten Mitgliedern, die nun die M?glichkeit haben, die Interessen von DoktorandInnen und Post-Docs in den Rat der Akademie einzubringen. Die Amtszeit der neuen Mitglieder beginnt am 01.07.2010.

2. Zwei neue Mitgliedseinrichtungen in die GA aufgenommen
Die GA w?chst weiter. In seiner Sitzung am 24. Juni 2010 beschloss der Rat der Akademie die Aufnahme zwei neuer Mitgliedseinrichtungen.

In die GA aufgenommen wurde zum einen die Abbe School of Photonics, die den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs auf dem Gebiet der Optik und Photonik f?rdert. Sie umfasst derzeit ca. 120 Doktoranden und 15 Hochschullehrer der Physikalisch-Astronomischen, der Chemisch-Geowissenschaftlichen und der Medizinischen Fakult?t.

Au?erdem wurde der Aufnahmeantrag des Marie Curie Initial Training Networks (ITN) "Controlled Systems" bewilligt.  Das Marie Curie INT ist ein im 7. Rahmenprogramm der EU gef?rdertes Doktorandenqualifizierungsprogramm, an dem sechs Universit?ten (Iasi, Brest, Jena, Manchester, Marrakesch, Milano) und weitere Partner beteiligt sind. In Jena promovieren derzeit vier Doktoranden im Rahmen des Netzwerks.

3. F?rderantr?ge bewilligt

4. Erste Ankündigungen: Studienprogramm WS 2010/11
Die Anmeldungen für den Zertifikatskurs "Lehrqualifikation Basic" im Wintersemester 2010/2011 sind  angelaufen. Der Kurs besteht aus drei Reflexionsveranstaltungen und einem hochschuldidaktischen Workshop. Weiterhin wird im Laufe des Programms eine Sitzung der eigenen Lehrveranstaltung per Video aufgezeichnet und evaluiert. Anmelden kann man sich über die Homepage der GA unter Studienprogramm und Schlüsselqualifikationen bis zum 31.8.2010. Weitere Angebote der GA zur Lehrqualifikation finden Sie hier.

Am 11. Oktober 2010 starten erneut zwei Deutschkurse für Anf?nger. W?hrend der eine Kurs eher mündlich/praktisch ausgerichtet ist und sprechen, h?ren und handeln im Vordergrund stehen, legt der andere Kurs den Fokus auf Grammatik, formale Korrektheit, schreiben und lesen, wobei natürlich auch das Sprechen in Alltagssituationen geübt wird. Anmelden kann man sich ab Mitte August über die Homepage der GA unter Studienprogramm, Sprachen.

5. Sommerfest der GA am 1. Juni 2010
Auch wenn der Sommer am 1. Juni noch nicht so recht kommen wollte, wir haben mit etwa 100 G?sten unser zweites Sommerfest in der Aula und  im UHG-Innenhof gefeiert.  Impressionen.

Ein Highlight war der Festvortrag von Prof. Alexandre Quintanilha zum Thema "Graduate training as a way to promote freedom, autonomy and responsibility". Anschlie?end war man im Innenhof  in einem gro?en Zelt vor Regen geschützt und konnte dem Jazz-Trio "deeptone" mit Florian Zeller (Piano), Clemens Appenroth (Bass) und Sebastian Stahl (Schlagzeug) lauschen.  Die drei Musiker sind Studenten bzw. Absolventen der Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar. Das Studentenwerk sorgte mit Speisen, Getr?nken und Cocktails für das leibliche Wohl.

Die Graduierten-Akademie, ihre Mitgliedseinrichtungen sowie die Universit?tsprojekte "LehreLernen" und "Familie an der Hochschule" informierten über ihre Arbeit. Im n?chsten Jahr wollen wir verst?rkt auch zukünftige DoktorandInnen auf die Veranstaltung aufmerksam machen.

Das dritte Sommerfest der GA wird am 17. Mai 2011 stattfinden.

 6. Schillertag und erste Promotionsfeier am 25. Juni 2010
Der Schillertag 2010 war eine Premiere: zum ersten Mal wurde die j?hrliche Festveranstaltung , die an die Antrittsvorlesung Friedrich Schillers in Jena 1789 erinnert, mit einer fakult?tsübergreifenden Promotionsfeier der Friedrich-Schiller-Universit?t verbunden, und das mit gro?em Erfolg! Die Veranstaltung wurde von der Graduierten-Akademie gemeinsam mit dem Rektoramt und der Gesellschaft der Freunde & F?rderer der FSU ausgerichtet.

Nach dem Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mittelstra? mit dem Titel "Die Forschung, das Neue und die Jungen" wurden die neuen DoktorInnen der beteiligten Fakult?ten feierlich gewürdigt. Dann wurden  wie jedes Jahr traditionell am Schillertag, die Promotionspreise sowie der Habilitationspreis vergeben. Eine weitere Premiere war der Vortrag eines Preistr?gers zu seinem Forschungsthema. Dr. Rainer Melzer von der Biologisch-Pharmazeutischen Fakult?t konnte die Zuh?rer mit dem Thema "Von Goethe bis heute: Molekulare Schalter in der Metamorphose der Pflanzen" begeistern.

Im n?chsten Jahr finden Schillertag und Promotionsfeier am 24. Juni 2011 statt.

7. Arie Nadler war erster Scientist in Residence
Prof. Arie Nadler hat als erster Scientist in Residence der Graduierten-Akademie einen zweimonatigen Forschungsaufenthalt in Jena verbracht.
Der renommierte Sozialpychologe der "Tel Aviv University" forscht u.a. zu den Themen:
  • soziale Effekte massiver sozialer Traumata (Holocaust)
  • Emotionale Prozesse in der Vers?hnung zwischen Individuen und Gruppen
  • Interdisziplin?re Forschung im Bereich Diplomatie, internationale Konfliktl?sung und Verhandlungsmethoden
Mit den Themen Nahostkonflikt und Vers?hnung setzte er sich in drei ?ffentlichen Lehr- und Diskussionsveranstaltungen auseinander, die auf breite Resonanz stie?en. Er hielt zwei Vortr?ge mit den Titeln "The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Past, Present and Future (?)" und "Reconciliation: What is it? What is it not? How does it work?" und es gab eine interdisziplin?re Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema "Reconciliation and Peacemaking: Psychological, Political and Theological Perspectives" an der au?erdem Martin Leiner (Professor für Systematische Theologie und Ethik), Manuel Fr?hlich (Professor für 欧洲杯投注地址_明升体育-竞彩足球比分推荐e Organisationen und Globalisierung) und Michael Dreyer (Professor für Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte) teilnahmen.
Prof. Nadler lobte die M?glichkeit, w?hrend seines Forschungsaufenthaltes interdisziplin?re 欧洲杯投注地址_明升体育-竞彩足球比分推荐e zu Wissenschaftlern der Universit?t Jena knüpfen zu k?nnen.

8. Teaching Assistantships
Die GA unterstützt NachwuchswissenschaftlerInnen bei dem Erwerb von ersten Lehrerfahrungen. Ausl?ndische Promovierende und Post-Docs stehen hier vor besonderen Herausforderungen, denn das Unterrichten in einer Fremdsprache kann eine zus?tzliche Hürde darstellen und einen erh?hten Aufwand für die Vorbereitung und Durchführung von Lehrveranstaltungen bedeuten.

Um ausl?ndische Promovierende und Post-Docs verst?rkt in die Lehre einzubinden, vergibt die Graduierten-Akademie sogenannte Teaching Assistantships. Mit diesen Mitteln sollen Promovierende und Post-Docs gef?rdert werden, welche Seminare, Tutorien, etc. halten oder Praktika betreuen.

Vergeben werden Stipendien von max. 400 EUR pro Monat mit einer Laufzeit von max. 4 Monaten. Die Vergütung richtet sich nach den Stundens?tzen für wissenschaftliche Hilfskr?fte.

9. Neuer Semesterbeitrag
Im Wintersemester 2010/11 betr?gt der Semesterbeitrag 146,40 EUR und setzt sich wie folgt zusammen:

    * 40,00 EUR Studentenwerksbeitrag
    * 54,50 EUR Semesterticket (Jenah)
    * 44,90 EUR Bahnticket
    *   7,00 EUR Beitrag für die Studierendenschaft

Die Immatrikulation erfolgt für deutsche und ausl?ndische Promovierende über das Doktorandenverwaltungsprogramm doc-in.

1. New members on the Board of the Academy
This year, post-doc and doctoral student representatives were elected online for the first time. The GA congratulates all newly-elected and re-elected members, who now have the opportunity of representing the interests of doctoral candidates and Post-Docs on the Board of the Academy. The new members’ term of office starts on 1 July 2010.

The following representatives are now on the Board of the Academy:

2. Two new member organisations join the GA
The GA keeps growing. At its meeting on 24 June 2010 the Board of the Academy decided to accept two new member organisations.

One is the Abbe School of Photonics, which supports young scientists in the field of optics and photonics. The school currently includes some 120 doctoral students and 15 professors from the schools of Physics and Astronomy, Chemical and Earth Sciences, and Medicine.

Also accepted was the application of the Marie Curie Initial Training Networks (ITN) "Controlled Systems". The Marie Curie ITN is a programme of doctoral qualification, supported by the EU Framework 7, in which six universities (Iasi, Brest, Jena, Manchester, Marrakesch, and Milan) and other partners are involved. In Jena there are currently four doctoral candidates studying for their PhDs under this network.

4. First announcements: study programme WS 2010/11
Registration has started for the certificate course “Basic Qualification in Teaching” that will take place in the 2010/2011 winter semester. The course consists of three tutorial sessions and a workshop on university education theory. Furthermore, in the course of the programme there will be a session in which a student’s teaching performance is recorded on video and evaluated. You can register for this course on the GA’s homepage under Study Programme and Transferable Skills until 31 August 2010. You will also find further courses offered by the GA for teaching qualifications.

Two courses in German for beginners will start up again on 11 October 2010. One of the courses focuses more on oral and practical skills, concentrating on speaking, listening and dealing with practical situations; the other course puts the emphasis on grammar, linguistic correctness, reading and writing, though speaking German in everyday situations is also practised. You can register for these courses from mid-August through the GA’s homepage under Study Programme, Languages.

5. GA Sommerfest on 1 June 2010
Although summer still wasn’t very willing to show its face on 1 June, this was nevertheless when we held our second Sommerfest with around 100 guests in the University Main Hall and in the courtyard of the university’s main building.  Here are some impressions of the party.

A highlight was the talk by Prof. Alexandre Quintanilha on the subject of "Graduate training as a way to promote freedom, autonomy and responsibility". Afterwards, partygoers were protected from the rain under a large marquee in the courtyard, where they were entertained by the jazz trio "deeptone" with Florian Zeller (piano), Clemens Appenroth (double bass) and Sebastian Stahl (drums). The three musicians are students or graduates of the "Franz Liszt" School of Music in Weimar. The Studentenwerk provided food and drinks, including cocktails.

The Graduate Academy, its member institutions and the university projects “LehreLernen” and "Families at University" [Familie an der Hochschule] provided information about their work. Next year we would like to enhance our efforts to make future doctoral students aware of this event.

6. Schiller Day and first PhD graduation ceremony on 25 June
Schiller Day 2010 was a new venture: for the first time the annual celebration to commemorate Friedrich Schiller’s inaugural lecture in Jena in 1789 was combined with a very successful doctoral graduation ceremony for Friedrich Schiller University, which included several faculties. This event was organised by the Graduate Academy, together with the Office of the Rector and the Society of Friends and Supporters of the FSU [Gesellschaft der Freunde & F?rderer der FSU].

After a talk by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mittelstra? entitled "Research, the new and the young" [Die Forschung, das Neue und die Jungen] the newly graduated PhDs of the faculties involved were ceremonially honoured. Then, as is traditional every year on Schiller Day, prizes for the best dissertation and the best habilitation were awarded. There was an additional first in the form of a presentation on their research topic by one of the prize winners.  Dr. Rainer Melzer (School of Biology and Pharmacy) captivated the audience with the theme "From Goethe until today: molecular switches in plant metamorphosis" [Von Goethe bis heute: Molekulare Schalter in der Metamorphose der Pflanzen].

Next year Schiller day and PhD graduation ceremony will be on 24 June 2011.

7. Arie Nadler as Scientist in Residence
Prof. Arie Nadler made a two month research visit to Jena as the first Scientist in Residence at the GA.
This renowned social psychologist from Tel Aviv University is actively researching, amongst others, the themes:
?    social effects of deep social traumas (Holocaust)
?    emotional processes of reconciliation between individuals and groups
?    interdisciplinary research in diplomacy, international conflict resolution and negotiation techniques
Within the topics Middle East conflict and Reconciliation, he presented his ideas, which have broader relevance, in two public lectures and a discussion. He held two talks, one entitled "The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Past, Present and Future (?)" and "Reconciliation: What is it? What is it not? How does it work?".  He also hosted an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the topic "Reconciliation and Peacemaking: Psychological, Political and Theological Perspectives" which also involved Martin Leiner (Professor of Systematic Theology and Ethics), Manuel Fr?hlich (Professor of 欧洲杯投注地址_明升体育-竞彩足球比分推荐 Organisations and Globalisation) and Michael Dreyer (Professor of Political Theory and the History of Ideas).
Prof. Nadler valued the possibility of making interdisciplinary contacts with University of Jena researchers during his research visit.

8. Teaching Assistantships
The GA supports junior scientists to acquire their first teaching experience. Teaching poses particular challenges for non German doctoral candidates and Post-Docs.  Teaching in a foreign language can represent an additional hurdle and demand increased effort in preparing and presenting lectures and practicals.

To integrate more strongly non German doctoral students and Post-Docs in teaching, the GA offers Teaching Assistantships. These resources are intended to support doctoral candidates and Post-Docs in holding seminars, tutorials, etc. and supervising practicals.

On offer are stipends of up to 400 EUR per month for up to four months. The payments are made in line with the hourly rate for scientific assistants [wissenschaftliche Hilfskr?fte].

9. New semester payments
In the Winter semester 2010/11, the Semester payment will be 146.40 EUR and made up as follows:

    * 40.00 EUR Studentenwerk payment
    * 54.50 EUR Semester ticket (JeNah)
    * 44.90 EUR train pass
    *   7.00 EUR Student association dues.

German and non German PhDs can enrol via doc-in, the new management application for doctoral candidates.

10. Thoska for Post-Docs
Post-Doc scholarship holders are able to apply for Thoska (the Thuringia multifunction chip card).  Please send in the completed Thoska application to the Graduate Academy.
